Oakland, CA—Allen Temple Health and Social Service Ministries is pleased to announce Gloria Crowell, Executive Director, as a recipient of the 2017 Jefferson Awards.

The award winners were carefully selected by the Jefferson Awards Foundation Board and announced at the end of March.  Gloria was interviewed by Channel 5 on March 23rd, 2017 along with staff at Allen Temple Health and Social Services.  The interview also featured Allan Markert, Program Outreach with Food 4 Life/Congregate Meals; Ken Hall, Medical Case Manager with the AIDS Ministry and Cathy Gelhken ATHSSM Nutritionist.

The Jefferson Award recognizes individuals who have made extraordinary contributions the community and those whom exemplify the highest standards of public service. Award winners serve as inspirational leaders to many as they embody the core values of service and commitment. I had an opportunity to congratulate Gloria on her accomplishments and asked her to share a few thoughts:

“Homelessness seems to be a huge issue in our community these days, but for me, HIV and Hepatitis C still takes the priority. Although we want to believe HIV is a disease and pandemic that is slowing down, our statistic’s tell us a vastly different story.  It is our responsibility to do more for those who have less and continue to raise awareness around this disease.”

Gloria Crowell, has over 15 years of experience in the field of HIV/AIDS within the local, national and global arena. She specializes in facilitating training for Non-Profit Board of Directors that will ultimately increase effectiveness in the governance of organizations. Currently, she is the Executive Director of ATHSSM, Founder of East Bay AIDS Walk and East Bay AIDS Advocacy Foundation and serves on as President of the Alameda County Public Health Commission.
